Weather Protocols
It is that time of year again, storms are rolling in! With that being said, there are a few things you should keep in mind while traveling to and from campus. During past storms, Spartanburg county has faced flooding, fog, and power outages. Please remain calm and safe during storms. We encourage you to take precautions when traveling. Here are some tips to staying safe!
- USC Upstate follows Spartanburg County closure schedules, which may differ from those of area school districts. If we make a decision to delay opening or postpone classes, you will be notified and the university website will be updated.
- Our Department of Public Safety will issue initial messaging about any hazardous conditions, flash flooding, road closures, etc., through SpartAlert. If you are new to campus and have not yet registered for these text alerts, we encourage you to do so. Sign up for SpartAlerts.
- University Communications and Marketing (UMC) will post appropriate messaging on the yellow bar that runs sitewide on the university website. Depending on the severity of conditions, we may provide a link to the South Carolina Emergency Management offices for more information about conditions in the region.
- UMC will also post any necessary messaging on social media and in emails to campus, if conditions warrant. If there are County closures or delayed openings, UMC will also inform area TV stations.
- Students and faculty should communicate directly with one another about any changes to class schedules due to inclement weather.
- Any changes in schedule for student services, including Dining Services and the Library, will be posted on the university website.
If you have any questions regrading weather, please visit USC Upstate's website.
